Halloween Spiderman, Princesses, and Transformers!

I talked to my sister in-law tonight and she told me that my niece is going to be a princess this year for Halloween. That seems pretty traditional. Then she told me that my nephews are going to be Spiderman, and a Transformer. What happened to the traditional costumes our mothers use to make? I remember being a pirate, a hobo, a ballerina, and yes a princess. Back then you came up with a costume and created it at home. Yes they did have the ones you could buy, but my mother always made mine. It just seems like it's getting more commercial just like Christmas, how sad.
